Organization
Windows of Hope is an international, not-for-profit project with primary administrative headquarters in London, England and Tucson, Arizona. It is under the direction of co-directors Drs. Andrew H. Crosby and Harold E. Cross. Extensive, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities are based in the Genetics Unit of St. George’s College of the University of London. The wide-ranging and complex requirements of investigations in the field of genomics and human physiology necessitate the cooperation of other specialized laboratories worldwide and numerous such collaborations are well established. Clinical evaluations and care are arranged locally through both physician providers and regional specialized care centers.
Extensive field work is necessary to maintain contact with families and care providers. This is provided by a network of field workers (see Personnel) who are registered nurses from the local communities. Many speak Pennsylvania Dutch, and all have extensive geographic, social, and demographic knowledge of their areas. WOH emphasizes the need and importance of extensive communication with patients, families, and physicians. Field personnel are vital to the relay of questions from subjects as well as in communicating back results and new information from the laboratory. Drs. Cross and Crosby visit each community at least three times each year during extensive field visits and, in collaboration with local field workers, hold information meetings for families and physicians.
