SITE ORGANIZATION AND NAVIGATION
The website explains the background, purpose, and history of the Windows of Hope project under the heading "About Us". The Links" section has links to regional health care facilities for each community under study. Finally, this section has links to general and more detailed information on genes, mutations, and medical genetics. A "Glossary" section can be consulted for definitions of many terms and concepts.
The "Personnel" section contains contact and biographical information on Windows of Hope personnel. The "Newsletter" link takes you to copies of WOH newsletters which contain information about our current activities. "Research" contains sections with references to specific research activities and publications among plain people and background articles on the unique characteristics and contributions that plain people have made to medical science. PubMed links where available are attached to these references.
The heart of this informational website, though, is contained in the "Disorders" section where you can find specific information on each of the more than 120 disorders identified so far among plain people. By clicking on specific titles, it is possible to learn more about symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, genetics, and prognosis. Contents are searchable by titles, symptoms (in any combination), disorders, and scientific articles. This section serves as a gateway to more extensive and specific information in the medical literature. Diagrams of known metabolic pathways and the impact of mutations are provided in the "Associated graphics" section. Links to specific illustrations are also provided in the descriptions of disorders.
